Hydrogen Compression for Tube Trailers
The GENO compression system utilizes Haskel’s hydraulically operated H-Drive hydrogen compressor to enable output pressures of up to 1050 bar. Greater energy density storage supports high-pressure hydrogen storage for tube trailer applications.
Gaseous hydrogen is compressed and transferred into long tube-like cylinders that are stacked onto a trailer to be hauled by trucks for easy transportation. Steel or composite cylinders are often bundled together into packs known as manifolded cylinder packs (MCPs) and delivered to site on the back of a truck or hydrogen Tube Trailer.
Once transported between sites, Hydrogen is then taken from the Tube Trailer and used as an energy source at a specific location, either for hydrogen-fuelled vehicles or to power wider manufacturing processes.

Haskel H-Drive compressor uses a piston instead of a diaphragm to reduce the volume of hydrogen. This is because diaphragm compressors have complicated start/stop procedures and higher CAPEX requirements. What is more, a diaphragm ruptures or failure may lead to an oil leak.
Hydrogen Testing Capabilities
Haskel’s Sunderland-based Hydrogen Centre of Excellence has recently benefited from a major investment. We used it to boost the facility’s operating capacity and upgrade the equipment in place. This hydrogen innovation hub that covers 1500 square metres can now test four 40ft hydrogen stations at any one time.
